Does anyone know what information I might get from his military records?

I wrote to the Grenadier Guards in which he served and have been told for £30 they will search for the records.
Possibly I'm wondering that these might give his date and place of birth? Although I'm wondering if they only say when and where he served?

Any idea's?

I wondered about that one, but that's a danged long stretch from 1907ish, with none in between.

My nan can only recall family from her mothers side. At the time of Albert/Peters death they had just moved to London from Foulden and they remained there after so probably severing the ties with Alberts family.

Well ... the standard reason is that

- his parents weren't married
- he was registered under his mother's birth surname
- he adopted the surname of his real father or a stepfather
- the father's name he gave when he married was real, or totally fabricated, or a mishmash of real father's given name, mother's surname, stepfather's surname, grandfather's given name ...

The father's name given at marriage is false a rather whopping proportion of the time (relatively speaking, of course). One out of my four gr-grfathers, for instance. ;)

Any idea why there is no birth index for Albert Peter Route anyone?

I'd bet that the 1883 birth and 1907 marriage in Docking are the same James ... and then I'd guess that he's your James. ;)

What's the father's occupation on the marriage certificate? That can help identify him in censuses.

I have been unable to find the birth for my great grandfather ALBERT PETER ROUTE.
The sources I have give conflicting info but narrow his birth down to between 1903 and 1908. I have infact searched 1900 to 1910 and not found him, infact I was suprised how few "ROUTES" there were in the indexes.
The info I do have on him is as follows:

(Marriage Certificate)
Albert Peter Route to Alice Amy Warren on 26 Aug 1933 at Foulden, Norfolk. Aged 26 (giving birth about 1907).
Fathers name JAMES ROUTE. One of the witnesses is a HERBERT ROUTE.

Death index, Peter A Route in 1940 Q4 Westminster aged 32. (Giving birth 1908)

CWGC gives Peter Albert Route death 16 Nov 1940 but no age or other details.

Newspaper cutting given to me by my nan (Albert/Peter's daughter) says he died during an air raid in London aged 37. (Putting his birth at 1903!!!) Also says he was from Walpole Saint Peter, Norfolk, son of the late Mr and Mrs Route who were well known in the Walpole district. Buried in Foulden, the home of his wife and two children.

All my nan (Kathleen Joan Route" could give me about him was the newspaper cutting. Her sister could offer no help as she has no recollection of him due to being an infant when he passed away.

Can anyone shed some light on the birth?
I have found only one James Route (1873 Norfolk) but I cant confirm he is the father.
