Looking for Sheila Mary Preston born 26 April 1965 at St. Mary's Hospital, Kensington, London - adopted at birth. Any details gratefully received.

Do you have the names of the birth parents and/or where they lived? :-)

Jane if you don't hear back and think there is a connection, you might also add a 'postem' to the birth registration for Sheila on freebmd.org.uk

Rambling Rose, there was no listing on freebmd for Sheila Preston and there has been no response from the personal message. Is there any way of discovering whereabouts the poster lived so I could put something in the newspaper? (Not an address per se, but an area. If this is the same person, she should be in Scotland - more specifically, around Glasgow.)

Just put Sheila in on the search for her - less is more with freebmd. This way it will come up with all the Sheila Prestons (if there's more than one) and also those with initials, but if you specify Sheila Mary it won't be recognised.

You'll have to give the PM time. There could be many reasons why your message hasn't been answered, or even opened - you've only given it a few hours.

First - if she doesn't have the same email address as she registered with GR then they won't be able to pass it on.
Not everyone who has a tree wants contact
Maybe she doesn't look at her emails daily - not everyone is hooked.
She may be ill, no longer alive, away on holiday etc.- I expect many 'accounts' on here are no longer viable.
You can check your sent messages - if the message has been forwarded by GR and the green envelope icon remains by your message to her, then it hasn't even been opened.

Don't think you can find out where a poster lives even a general area.

Sheila M Preston is on freebmd as per date and place named in OP, as greyghost says don't put full middle name in.
