Mabel Report 4 Oct 2008 13:04

Hi

I was hoping some one might be able to help me with this

I have found a record for the person I believe to be my grandfather's sister on the 1891 census.

Sophia Walford age 12 c 1879 born St Pancras london residing at 74/76 Blechynden street Kensington Town London
RG12 Peice 23 folio 187 page 50

This looks to be a school or something similar but it doesn't actually say what it is. I was hoping some body had better google skills or resources than me and could tell me what was at this address in 1891.

Any help appreciated

Mabel

If you follow the street (back and forward) the numbers are 74 & 76 as they are between 60s and 80s. I also think it is St (Street) not Sh after looking at the other pages.

Mabel,
Abit late in the day.
My great aunt, Maud Collings is also enumerated 1891.
Her father died in 1880 leaving 5 children all under 10 years of age. The youngest stayed with his mother but it has been family belief that the other four daughters went to a workhouse or similar. By 1891 the three eldest daughters were either working or with other family members.
All had successful lives and the family remained intact and in touch throughout their lives. Maud became a district nurse and midewife.
