Thanks very much T

That must be a problem at BDM and it makes things fairly solid in terms who I am looking for.

All I need to do now is found out why his parents then started using the surname Cousins and why he took my Grandmother's surname and I'll be OK!

I doubt if I ever will, as they clearly had some reason for doing so, but thanks again for the help in establishing who they started off as.

Julie..

There's a newspaper clipping that mentioned Barbara Rennie

The Lethbridge Herald - Tues 20th November 1928

Nine Year Old Hero Saved Seven Lives
---
Rushed back and forth leading children from Soldiers Settler's burning home, South of Vermilion - One little tot persisted in going back and was consumed by flames.

Edmonton, Nov 20 - How the heroism of nine year old Rosetta Annetts saved from fire and exposure the lives of herself and seven other children out of eight, when in the absence of adults, their farm home south of Vermilion was burned to the ground on Saturday night last, is told in a story that has just reached the city.

Six times, while smoke and flames filled the kitchen of the house, did the little girl make her lone trip up and down the stairs. At the sixth attemp the paint on the stairs was bubbling with heat and the brave child's throat was raw and choking with smoke.

Rosetta would have saved all the children, had not four year old Barbara Rennie persisted in returning to the burning house. Three times the little one went back, twice Rosetta carried her out to safety. The third time the house was so badly filled with smoke that the child could not be rescued; her charred body was found in the ruins of the house after the fire had died down.

The home was that of Alexander Rennie, soldier settlement occupant, seperated from his wife.
Mr and Mrs Annetts lived with Rennie, the little heroine being their daughter.

The only way is to obtain her death cert is to order it in Alberta. here's the link to the site - http://www.servicealberta.ca/659.cfm

I have saved the newspaper clipping so if you'd like it then please PM me your email address and I will have it sent over to you.

Thanks T.. that's brilliant.

Apologies - I haven't explained things well again. the two births I had were:

Births Sep 1886 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Smart Henry John Fulham 1a 270

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Births Dec 1886 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SMART Harry Fulham 1a 193

The first of these is my Grandfather as my uncle has a copy of the birth cert. and I know that his parents were Charles and Emily. You kindly looked up the baptism for me and found that he was baptised as Harry (although born as Henry).

I was wondering who the other Harry in the birth records was (in truth I was wondering if they registered him twice in two different names). I was also a bit confused about why Henry was born in May and registered in Sept.

I have a Harry Smart as residing in an institution in Wandsworth in 1911 (sounds worrying), so I'll look into that a bit further.

Sorry to ask so many questions

Thanks again

Graham

Graham...

Glad to know I'm not the only one!!

I remember now, the ones I've found was down as Harry John Smart. I cannot find another Henry (same parents or should I look for Henry with completely different parents?!).

No marriage appears in the London records, the only way to find out who Henry was married is to check 1911 Census. (did a check.. couldnt find Henry, but know that he married to Gertrude Ching as I've checked to see who did the other guy in the list marry, it was to Mabel so it's definately Gertrude).

Hi T

I know the feeeling!

The details you gave me were for my Grandfather born Henry John Smart dob 24 May 1886 in Fulham but christened Harry John Smart by his parents, Charles and Emily Smart (do you know where he was christened please?).

The other person is called Harry Smart on the birth record and was registered in Fulham in December 1886.

I didn't explain the marriage question very well either - my Grandfather married one of two possible women in 1906 in Fulham, would you be able to tell me who it was?

Thanks again

Graham
