Margie, unless I'm reading it wrong that Maisie in 1911 was born in Cape town?

rootgatherer

rootgatherer Report 18 May 2012 18:42

How do you know that the Charlotte living with Thomas and Sarah is the mother of Maisie please?

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 18 May 2012 18:50

Uh Oh! That's a big Oops on my part, rootgatherer, I didn't look at the original. I usually always do so. Capetown, South Africa it is.

rootgatherer

rootgatherer Report 18 May 2012 18:56

No problem Margee.

I think we need Alisoun to come back and help us here. I'm not seeing Maisie on the 1901 never mind the 1911.

It would be good to know what proof there is that Charlotte is the daughter of Thomas and Sarah. Without a marriage certificate how would you know her father's name? Without findin Charlotte and Maisie together on a census I think we are just guessing.

thanks so much
I do know where my nana Maisie lived but it,s Charlotte who,s shrouded in mystery

in 1901 nana was listed as May Roberts (transcribed in print as Mary)

By 1911 census has Maisie Hallis ADOPTED by samuel +mary and she certainly used HALLIS at school and work

MARRIAGE certificate 1924 to Edward Jones doesn,t list her father and she,s down as Maisie Fellman Roberts otherwise known as Maisie Hallis

*I have a thread about her adoptive family "WORKHOUSE HALLIS/Hollis Boys

The saddest part of this story is that as an adult Maisie did track her birth mum (without a team of internet helpers)who wrote back for her not to contact her again as she was married and her son was in a "respectable "profession. My aunt found this letter after her death but decided to throw it away so we don,t know the details

maybe another family member told her who and where her birth mother was .

From new thread:

Hi still looking for what happened to them accidently pressed "answered" to one section that had answered a question for me . so please go back to latest comments on that site if you,re still interested in helping .

I.m going to ASK MY MUM HOW SHE,S SURE IT,S THE RIGHT cHARLOTTE ROBERTS without any more details on birth certificate
But was told to find father it was common around 1900 for mother,s to add father,s surname as a middle name ,and fellman is more like a surname than a 1st name

Have explained to come back and continue on here.

Hi Alison, I'm afraid GR Rules are one thread per family. It's for very good reasons, mainly that research doesn't get duplicated on the different threads, and also it helps us enormously if all of the info is in one place (we have all the background info and can cross-reference, etc).

I'll copy the info over again from that other thread then please go back and delete it.

(Don't worry - we'll get there!) :-)

From the other thread:

George Fellman
Hi still looking for what happened to him - on Maisie,s birth certificate Fellman is middle name. Roberts is her mother,Charlotte,s surname
