Trying to find Matilda Dell est birth 1844 on any census before she married Richard Hetherington Cood in 1864.

Trying to find if Matilda was a gypsy too and from a gypsy family or if she was from an East End Jewish tailors family??

Matilda is keeping to the same age throughout I notice, though on the '71 her birthplace is down as Walthamstow, not Gravesend

I just can't seem to find Matilda Dell at all..

Iv even tried to find a sibling perhaps.... a Henry Dell or Solomon Dell..around the same age as Matilda... i don't even know if she had a brother...but Solomon seems like a Jewish name..

I think you will have to get the marriage cert, there doesn't seem to be a Matilda Dell born around 1844

I think your right with the Solomon census.

Matilda and richard also had a daughter called Gentilia or Jentilia or something similar.... do u reckon there might be a gentilia dell??

Can't find Henry Dell in 1861 or 51 which is what made me think perhaps their mother re-married.

There is the death of a Francis John Dell in Gravesend 1849 who might be the father...but again it's just a guess.

Matilda Gentilia Coode born c1847 at Wood Street, Walthamstow was almost certainly from a traveller family. In 1893 she gave evidence in the trial of her brother Henry and described them as 'hawkers' living in a van in Higham Hill. In the 1911 Census she is living at 70, Higham Hill with her husband and her place of birth is given as Wood Street, Walthamstow, In the 1891 Census she is living with her family in Forest Road, Leyton. All of these addresses are associated with traveller sites and it is almost certain that in 1893, when she gave evidence, she was living in Folly Lane which is a traditional traveller site and where today there is an official traveller site.
