I still can't find out what happend to MARY ANN SMITH FINDLAY (b) 31 Aug. 1859 Forfar, Scotland. Father Alexander Findlay and Mother Mary Ann (Milne) Findlay.
I still believe she married and stayed in Scotland, AND DID NOT IMMIGRATE like some of her Brothers to Australia and USA, but can't find out who she married and where, and where she died. There could have been a mix up in her name when she married for the records, so tried to look for a "Marriage" of Mary Ann SMITH even, instead of her correct full name. Someone thought she might have gone to Glasgow or middle of Scotland somewhere, but it is just like looking for a needle in a haystack. Can anyone suggest what I can do next, I would be very grateful. Beverley

If a lot of work has already been done on this site to try and find her, could you nudge up that thread so that the work is not duplicated?
Thanks

Thank so much to all who replied, I found a Mary Ann Findlay who migrated to Canada, but she was not my Mary Ann Smith Findlay as she was too young. I have been trying everything I can think of. I have mesages on other sites, I know about all the other 9 children, (Brothers and Sister) where they lived, what they did in life and when they died, and feel sad that she was the first born and we can't find anything about her life. Beverley Report 30 Jan 2016 03:05

After 30 odd years I found Mary Ann Smith Findlay. On the Marriage Cert. it has some wrong details, also she did not have her full name on Certificate.
Mary Ann Smith Findlay married John Black on 2nd January,1883 in Montrose. A daughter, Mary Jane Black was born in Montrose on 25th Sept. 1883. Then they disappeared, I found them in Islington, London, England in 1911 Census.
On the 1911 Census it has 2 children born & 2 living but names have been crossed out. I only know of Mary Jane Black, but that is not one of the names crossed out.
So there is still a mystery with this family.
I know Mary Ann Smith Black & John Black both died in Islington, London, England.

That's good you have found information. It's so frustrating when you hit a brick wall

Beverley Report 30 Jan 2016 05:27

Yes thank you. I still need information on the children (need clarification on names because of Census cross outs) I guess I have to wait for the next Census to come out, but unsure by that time that I will find what I need as they would be married by then.

A tree on Ancestry has Mary Ann and Mary Jane in Fourdoun with John Allan and Jane Allan - she is their granddaughter. John's mother was - again according to the tree - called Jane; John was illegitimate and she later married a Mr Allan

Looked on Scotlands People - always have credits :-) - the only Agnes (with one s) was born in Guthrie Angus in 1880 - illegitimate; mother Jessie Black postal letter carrier.

I wonder if "Jenny" is Mary Jane?
