I am looking for records of my GGGrandfather James Holloway Brown. He was baptised at Holy Trinity Clapham on 25th May 1834. His father was William Brown and his mother Mary Ann (maiden name unknown). He had a son James c1863 married in 1888 to Sarah Ann Davey. His baptism record has him as James Holloway Brown but I have been unable to find any reference to Holloway in any other records I have come across.

Do you have the marriage cert for the James m1888 and his birth cert? If the Holloway isn't mentioned on these, how can you be sure that you have the right line? Can you post any census info that you have on the family?

James Holloway Brown's (1834) son James (c1863) had an oil and paint shop on Chatworth Road Hackney and was married to Sarah Ann Davey. He changed the family name from Brown to Holloway in about 1901. In the 1891 census he is Brown but in the 1901 and 1911 he is Holloway. When he died in 1922 he was James Holloway Brown thats how I am pretty sure that Holloway is a name connected to the family. James Holloway Brown (1834) appears to have a brother William John who has the same parents, same baptism church and father William is a coachman in both entries.
Catherines post of the 1851 census is a possibility, the only thing that doesn't tally is the entry for William John aged 6. He in fact was a year younger than James who is entered as 17. Maybe its a mistake by the enumerator and it should be 16.
I have the marriage certificate for James in 1888 when he married Sarah Davey in Deptford but I can't find his birth. Julia Stanmore was his second wife married 1910 and James was Brown but in the 1911 census he is Holloway. Confusing or what!
Thank you all very much for your posts

The William on 1851 census in Hillingdon.

William Thomas Brown born @ 1845 married Margaret louisa Vagg in 1869 his dad was William Brown a hawker.
there is a tree on Ancestry and it gives their address in 1851 as 22,Rockingham Parade Hillingdon.

It seems the james on that census is another james brown.

I'm trying to find details of my gig grandmother Caroline Brown She was born in Bexley in c1838, she had a sister Mary Ann, I do not know their parents. Caroline married? Thomas Holloway around 1863. She had a son, James, born in Marylebone in 1863. Strangely he called himself James Brown not Holloway so it's hard to know who his father is. I can't find the births of James or Caroline.
