Deborah, not quite sure where you think they married or had children? I assume Canada or America? Might be a good idea to add this to your heading if so.

When they returned to UK, although they travelled from Canada, their last permanent address is given as USA.

So marriage/births are likely to have been in USA?

It would appear that marriages post 1900 in Illinois aren't on line.

http://www.idph.state.il.us/vitalrecords/genealogicalinfo.htm

The Ellis Island entry as posted by Sylvia says that Ivy was going to Lake County. If you can find the county clerk address from the state list on the above link, they could probably do a search for you (for a fee)

Familysearch does have a database Illinois Marriages, 1815-1935, and a seperate one for County Marriages. There doesn't see to be anything under Harris or Wilkins

??????????????????????????

coincidence or ??????????????

Could Ivy have been married before????

from freebmd

Marriages Mar 1938 (>99%)

Harris Hubert W Stock Hitchin 3a 1532
Stock Ivy E Harris Hitchin 3a 1532

Hitchin is the registration district spanning the boundaries of the counties of Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire.

Is this a likely area????

many thanks for all your help, have tried many times to find out whether they got married in america or canada and also where Joan and betty were born. When they traveled back my nan Ivy M Wilkins was now know as Ivy M Harris and both girls had the name of Harris so i'm presuming they did marry over there? will check that link above and see if i can get any more information. My nan had never been married before and when they returned to England she settled in Banbury with Hubert and they had their own bakery shop in Easington.

kind regards
debbie

Can this be Hubert's death? If so, they didn't have the bakery shop for long, at least not jointly:
