Mariian is probably going to have a bit of a time following some of this ... I know I do, some of those awful, long, hard to read census copy and pastes with all the unhelpful info like 'folio number' and 'back to search results' and whatnot :-)

this birth would match the age and place of birth of

in the 1881 census

I wonder whether she was a child of these parents in the 1871 census in Brightside Bierlow, but was not at home with them on census night (when she was 9 years old)

an Ancestry user has corrected the surname to BOUSKILL and said

'other census have this spelling or have been corrected to this from bowskill'

... but no, they were probably William Bouskill and Maria Abson who married 1864 in Sheffield


so she was born MARY BOUSKILL in Sheffield in 1862

and she married before the 1881 census

so the only chance to find her in a census with her parents or as Mary Bouskill is in 1871, and I am not finding her yet

I have just tonight encountered the horrible new search form at FMP for passenger and military records ... just when I was about to throw Ancestry through the nearest window for making it impossible to search for people in censuses (or even bmd records!!) by place of birth and place of residence and making its census search form completely uselessly two monitor lengths long ... everything is designed for telephones today and me with my monitor on my desk I should just be put out to pasture !

I'm not having any problems with ancestry ........... so long as I have "Match all terms exactly" ticked

edits (Sylvia, the 1881 looks more like GR style, FMP is worse than that now!!, so much editing needed to fill in spaces, and make it in a way that anybody can understand, what a shambles, also time consuming, very!)

Bowskill is an old Killamarsh surname, sometimes Bowkill or Bouskill, Killamarsh is Chesterfield District. In nearby Kiveton Park there are also Bowskill, this is Sheffield District and nearby Rotherham District depending which village you lived in.
