Irish Death Certificates

Does anyone know if Irish death certificates can be ordered on-line, or do I have to write off for them.

The death I'm looking at is for Jane Speer in 1888 in Irvinestown. I'm hoping that the registrant might give me a clue as to whether it's my ancestor or not.

Thanks.

The GRO(I) index thru 1958 (excl N. Ireland post-partition) is available at:
https://familysearch.org/search/collection/list#page=1®ion=UNITED_KINGDOM_IRELAND

One can purchase certs (or cheaper still, the uncertified images of the rego) via:
http://www.groireland.ie/

Thanks mgnv. I've had a look at that site and can you believe it costs 20 euros for a certificate.

I had a look on familysearch but there's no listing.

Thanks

Yvonne -sorry abt that - I haven't used my link for a year now - I just checked it out on the wayback machine:
https://archive.org/web/
A year ago the price was 10 euros, or 6 for an uncertified photocopy. By May 2013, the prices were 20 euros & 4 euros. Sometime after Aug 2013, the link started redirecting to the present site, and there's no mention of uncertified photocopies anymore.

If there's nothing listed in the index, then there probably is no d.cert. I've no idea what rego district Irvinestown was in If you've got a census for Irvinestown, somewhere (I think on one of the ancilliary pages) it says what the poor law union is - these coincided with rego disricts initially, although things have changed over the last century & a half.

This site has a downloadable postal application form for Irish certs; it still mentions the €4 copy:

http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx

I noticed that the death was in Fermanagh, which is In Northern Ireland, so thought that it might be easier to get the cert from there, but the new NI site for the GRO seems even more complicated than the Irish one! Address of death and relationship to the deceased required!

Forget the above - have just had another look at the NI site and you can search the registers online and see an image of the original entry. You have to register and buy credits. Just to try it out, I searched for and looked at the image for Jane Speer. It took 5 credits (£2). The images cannot be printed or downloaded but there is a link to buy the cert for £8. I will check the site address and post it below.

Hi Potty

Thanks so much for your help. The entry shows Jane as being single so that proves it's not the Jane I was looking for. My Jane was married. However, she still might be related and I'll try to follow up on the niece who registered the death. My ancestors were all from the Fermanagh area but there were a lot of Speers with varying spellings of the name.

Thanks again.
