I cant find birth or christening for my great great grandad George Watkinson born 1824 in Gainsborough. He died in 1889. His father was William. He moved from Gainsborough to Lambeth and had an iron foundry in Waterloo Road.

Rosemary,

Could you say where you have looked for the birth or christening?

Thanks

Hello everyone and thank you. Yes you have the correct George and I have his death certificate and his marriage cert. to Sarah Hobden. But I cant find births for either of them. I've tried dusty docs and lincs to the past.
Any info on the iron foundry would also be welcome. I believe it was called Watkinson & Payne.

Just in case... ( not that far from Hull to Lincolnshire )

This may be George's parents marriage which is after his birth and would explain the christening being postponed

William Watkinson

Marriage Date:21 Feb 1826

Marriage Place:Holy Trinity,Kingston Upon Hull,York,England

Spouse: Mary Ann Young

Thank you. I considered the Bigby christening but the date threw me. However your marriage of his parents does explain it. I dont understand the indexing and GS film details. Is this something which will give me a copy of the original details and if so how can I obtain them? Thanks for your help.

Just for information, Gainsborough is more than 20 miles from Bigby, and so although the information fits it is still slightly suspect.
(And Hull to Bigby is about 20 miles using a rowing boat)
