Find Ancestors

Hi I am new to this and need a bit if guidance please. As my father has no details about his father I have decided to try and find something out for him. All I have is my grandfathers marriage and death certificate, on the marriage certificate it states that he was in the forces but I don't know where to go to find out more. It states a private no 1470675 ( not sure about the last digit as it is in the crease of the certificate) RA06. From this I have no idea where to go from here so if if anyone could please help me it would be greatly appreciated.

My grandfather's name is John George Straughan born 1925 died 1952 from Gateshead

His birth should be on FreeBMD

If no dad named then this looks like his mum was a single mum

When did he actually marry as not seeing a possible one ?

The marriage date is 12th Nov 1946 married Joyce Briggs.

The marriage isn't coming up on the index because he seems to have been mistranscribed as Straub

So hadn,t Joyce been able to tell your dad about his father ?

I see she possibly remarried in 1967 ?

As he seems to have been illegitimate, you are going to be limited to looking for only his mother's family

Hi my grandma Joyce who died 20 years ago never mentioned my Dads father nor did anyone in the family so I have very limited information. My grandma married again that year in 1952 to Wazal Kobewka who was ukranian.

So your best bet then is to get his birth cert

When you have received it. And if you need further help then come back to this thread with the info from the cert and we will see what we can find.
