thanks potty

ive actually found a burial record for mary burn (it states burn as the surname as on the censuis records it ranges from burn, burns, and byrne) but it has the address she was living at as a widow with mary ann and her children in warren street on one of the census records.
hopefully there is gravestone with some info on it as i am popping up there today...
i managed to copy some records of the cemetry plans so hopefully i can find something today ;-)

Just a thought - if they married by licence and not by Banns, they might be in these images - but there are an awful lot to page through:

Although the children were baptised in an Independent church, legal marriage at that time could only take place in C of E churches. If Mary is Isabella's sister, she would probably have married in the same church. Mary Ann was born in 1822, so we are looking for a marriage 1820is - unfortunately there is a gap in the fs images between 1820 and 1830. Durham Archives may have the original parish records (the ones on fs are Bishops Transcripts).

THANKS for your time and help it is apprechiated..
i am only going down this route as i hit a wall with regards to james byrne/burn/burns marriage to mary.....i am only presuming that her maiden name is robinson with ref to the earlier posts in this thread and the use of robinson as middle names further down the line...

I think you might have to go to the Archives or look for Non-Conformist records. There should be a film ref on the familysearch record so you could ask to see the film at your nearest Mormon family history centre. I have found the 1805 marriage and have been paging through to see if I can find any other children (baptisms or deaths). No luck so far. There does seem to be a big gap between the children - 1813 to 1822, with the last baptism being for 1828.

The burial records give a lot of info - names of both parents including MMN and birth parishes.

Sean, there are quite a few births for the children of Isabella Robinson and Thomas Brown on familysearch. The youngest I could find was for Ann baptised 2nd Nov 1806 in Sunderland. fs gives DOB as 16 Oct 1806 but if you look at the link below, the image has 16 March 1906. She is shown as the 3rd daughter of Isabella and Thomas. I would have thought 3 children between 1805 and 1806 was possible! Where did you find Isabella & Thomas's marriage? Paging through the images on the link should find the other baptisms and possibly the marriage.

Just wondering if this could be Mary Robinson's baptism - on the same day as Isabella's:

Magdalene Robinson
England Births and Christenings, 1538-1975

birth: 7 October 1784 MALLING RIGGS,SUNDERLAND,DURHAM,ENGLAND

Hi All
Any help with this brick wall would be great as its been a while and still aint getting anywhere..
heres where i am currently..
received marriage cert for, elizabeth robinson byrne to john sinlair in 1854,
witnesses at bottom of cert are francis sinclair and isabella brown.

done a search on isabella brown and she married thomas brown in 1805 and they had a son first name ROBINSON...so checked her maiden name which was also robinson so though she might be related to mary ann burns 1822 (mary anns mothers sister) so looked for isabella brown nee robinson baptism which was 21-10-1784 parish sunderland, church mallings rigg independent...her father was thomas and mother ann...wanted to scroll through records online but not available anywhere...

dont know if i am over thinking this but ran out of ideas any help or a point in a different direction greatly accepted haha
cheers

Sean, where did you find the baptisms? Are you aware that familysearch has images of these? It might be worth paging back through the images both churches to see if you can find the marriage - a long job though!

hi all
bit more info that i have..
mary ann burns was baptised @ st nicholas durham city 29th july 1821 as marian burn.
parents james burn (paper maker) &mary burns address given as the poor house st nicholas.
Mary ann sister elizabeth robinson burn baptised 8th july 1827 @holy trinity church, washington.

earlier in the thread mary burns(mother) widowed living with mary ann in the 1861 census but unable to find her in 1851 census.

but 1841 census i have a james byrne aged 50 labourer born in IRELAND,
mary byrne aged 45, and daughter elizabeth byrne 13 (mary ann not with them as at that age to work).
i know that the spellings were often different or incorrect back then but i still carnt find a marriage for james burn/burns/byrne and mary robinson(mother). i think the middle name is definately correct as mary ann named her daughter probably after her sister and her mother(as they used to carry the names on).
be grateful if anybody could add anythink?
cheers again

sean ...........

short answer ................... possibly not

English death certificates at that time would have had the following ...............

person's name
age
sex of deceased
occupation (eg, wife of xxxxx xxxxx, labourer or deceased)
date and place of death
reason for death
name of doctor (or of coroner)
name and address of informant
relationship of informant
when registered
signature of Registrar

and in fact .......................... most of the infromation on ANY Englsih or Welsh death certificate is only what the informant knows ............. or what the deceased has let be known.

This means that much of the information, even on modern certificates, can be inaccurate!

The only information that you can rely on being accurate is ..................

date and place of death
reason for death
sex
name and address of doctor or coroner
informant's name and address, and relationship to deceased
when registered
Signature of Registrar

everything else is hearsay .................. and even children don't always know the truth (even today :-) )
