You should always try to verify any info that you have been given, especially when it all seems so much like guesswork

freebmd is the site for doing that

This is Amy in 1911. I have sent a correction to FMP

1911 England, Wales & Scotland Census Transcription
5 Parker Road South Croydon, Croydon, Surrey, England

Print household transcription Household Members

Annie must have been a 2nd wife. William can't be her child

Thank you all

Yes Jackie..... Kathleen Simmonds was my M in L.... 3 sons & 1 daughter followed.....MMN Simmons... I know for certain this is correct... I knew all that were born after Kathleen.

Thank you Margee..Chris.. Will look at that..

Tess.... Yes there was 1 other daughter but her husband was William.. known as Bill.

Now it gets complicated.....

Amy Alice Snow is I believe ( not proven) the daughter of John George Snow & Annie Gifford... This was on an outline descendent tree sent to me in Jan.2012. Unfortunately I can't remember by who...I was in a very bad place then....

It goes on to say...

1st. husband of Amy Alice Snow...Stephen Arthur Jackson.Mar. Aug. 31st 1925 Croydon.
2nd'. husband Unknown.. B. abt 1907 Eng. Mar. about 1938 Eng..
3rd. husband George Gardiner B. abt 1905 in Eng.Mar. abt. 1943 England.

No mention of any children

Stephen and Amy's first-born's marriage

Marriages Dec 1960 (>99%)
JACKSON Arthur J WATSON Croydon 5g 166

Info about whether his father was alive or not should be on the cert

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 3 Sep 2014 09:44

This birth would fit nicely with the death added above

Births Jun 1907 (>99%)
SNOW Amy Alice Croydon 2a 266

I've looked at freebmd, there is no record of a marriage in 1938 for Amy A Jackson

Where did you get the info that such a marriage took place?

There are births for Jackson with MMN Snow in Croydon from 1926 until 1943.

There is also a Jackson to Snow marriage in 1935, so can't say if the later births belong to that one

If Edward and Kate had any other daughters, perhaps the husban of one of them died in WW11 and was known as Jack.

All of the Jacksons on the Dunkirk Memorial are listed here. None seem to match.

Have recieved Marriage cert for Arthur S Jackson today.

Definitely not the right one... In fact could hardly be more wrong.

Age , Condition, profession , father's name etc. All Wrong.....

So sadly back to square one ..

Am waiting for death cert of James B Jackson, but that , if the correct person , will only indicate that the brother referred to as "Jack" was Arthur Stephen Jackson.

So back to.. did he die during ww2 as OH said ? ...if so... Where is he hiding.? .

I have FMP copy of ww2 deaths other ranks.. for all Jackson's.. Unless I am missing something, he is not on there..

Hi Jacqueline... No these are not his parents... They are Edward Jackson & Kate/Kathleen Simmon(d)s. Have M. cert. Also the birth/death certs for the 2 who died. 1st. & 3rd. children of 10.
Stephen Arthur was 2nd. My M in L was 6th. There is another possible death in 1917. George. ./mother Simmons.
Have ordered the Marriage cert for Arthur S Jackson that you kindly found for me & will go from there. Will take about 10 working days !! My how the price has shot up since I last ordered any.Was £7+ then
Went back to my electoral roll copy for 1939. He was registered as Arthur Stephen on there so it is looking good.

Thank you

Sorry to ask, but are you totally sure that this Uncle Jack was a Jackson?

Could he have been an uncle from the maternal line?

Jack was the common diminutive for John.

Thank you Jacqueline.I only put "Known as" because that is all the information my OH can give me...Uncle Jack died at Dunkirk...!!!!
These 2 brothers not accounted for out of a family of 10 The object is to find whether just one or both brothers died in WW2 . And ultimately which one had the nick name Jack

I have no other information for Benjaman James after the 1911 census. Have looked for death & marriage. nothing.
