William Horton born 1877 Hellingly Sussex to William Horton 1850 and Mary Fox
1853.
Mary and William had a son born before marriage George Fox 1870 in 1871 census
he is with gr parents Arthur and Lydia Fox
he is a George Horton 1881 Census with William and Mary Horton
as George Fox he joined to army in 1888 -- converted to R C 1897 and married
Mary Ann McDonald 29. 9. 1897 in Richmond, Nova Scotia. 4 daughters
Plympton ,West Indies, Gibralta, Malta. may be more presume he lived in Canada when he finished serving 1920.

when William Horton 1850 died 1929 his obituary says he had 5 sons 2 daughters
1 son in Canada --- the mourners are Widow - Frederick and wife -- Frank and wife--- Arthur and Wife -- Edward and wife - daughters are Lydia and Harriet
no mention of William or George [ if he is counted as a son??] I have looked for a death of William but wonder if he went to Canada

Would be please if anyone can see if William did go or if the reference to Canada was for George ??

Thank you Mavis

Have you looked to see if William or George are in trees on here, and then contacted the tree owners to see if they had more information?

Was William jnr with the family in 1911, and what was his occupation?

Thanks

Thanks you Catherine for update on George Fox -- that could be William
Horton ??

I have access to Sussex Bp and deaths unsure about child that died -- if
that had been William I would have thought It would have been in the
deaths of Hellingly.

If the 1901 Canadian entry for Wm. Horton is your William then he was a patient at the time, so maybe he died in Canada at the same time?

[The image shows 2 groups of Fox's - our mob headed to Irish Cove NS, and 3 others headed to Winnipeg.
However, it's an alphabetical list, and Fox isn't a really unusual name - I guess it's just coincidence.]

Irish Cove is abt 5km N of Johnstown, and Red Islands is abt 8km S of Johnstown - all are on the shore of Bras d'Or Lake, near the S end. Irish Cove is almost on the Richmond/Cape Breton county line.
Alexr Graham Bell moved to the lake after his phone days - he got interested in hydroplanes and built a craft that set the world water speed record on the lake.

Since you give exact details for Geo's marr, I presume you've accesed:

Using http://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/census/Pages/census.aspx
Here's the 1881 for Richmond NS district, Red Islands subdistrict, showing Mary Ann McDonald a=10, d/o Michael & Ann, with sis Catherine a=13 & bro Roderick a=6 & other sibs, but the 2 I named were witnesses at Mary's marr.
There's also a bro Neil a=4, but I don't know that he would be old enough to conduct the marr.

NB 1871-1901, the Canadian nominal census day was within 1 d of the UK's; 1906-1921 it was in June.

Neil (the head of h/h) is on page 2, line 18 on Sched 1, so that's the key to his entry in Sched 2]

Katy A. MacDonald d/o Michael & Anny and Frank Cash married 4/2/1902 in Irish Cove, Cape Breton County
Annie McDonald d/o Rail McNeil & Annie McNeil, died 2/9/1926 a=86 of Irish Cove, Richmond County - the informant was her daur Mrs Frank Cash.
[Actually, she died in Hawksbury, Antigonish Co after 3 w of residence there - probably the nearest hospital is my guess.]
