Find Ancestors

Can someone out there help me find joshua willis born around 1812 in Rochdale on the 1851 census. In 1840 he married Rachel hargreaves at Rochdale st chads. I was under impression he may have been in prison. He was possibly in prison at one point. Maybe when Rachel died because seem to remember a story that he wad in prison as on when his daughter Ellen was young. Can anyone confirm this?

Thankyou for all that folks. You've been amazing. Such a lot of info in so short a time. I did here of Jim being in prison..joshua. always thought he was born in Rochdale so surprised he was born in Kent. Obviously born when dad was may be serving in army in Kent. Because other siblings born Rochdale. Perhaps it wasn't my joshua in prison. Wonder if I ccould find out somehow. Seems unlikely if the prison was so far away maybe?
