The man in the workhouse is extremely unlikely to be your relative......look at ALL of the info

That's why I added it

And the death is probably the workhouse man

Many thanks Jacqueline for what you have found.

I am unsure about the William you found in the workhouse as he is a labourer. 'My' William was a tailor, but it really could be him. I'll keep it for reference, thanks you.

I will now have to order the death cert I found earlier!

Thanks again, Marcus

I would imagine this is the one in the Workhouse

Hi, I have found a death and burial ref for a William Tizard b about 1796/7.

This William was buried in Wyke Regis, in Jan 1879, and the death was registered in the same quarter.

Hopefully this is him...!!!

My questions are now -

1, Can anybody tell me if he was in the Weymouth Workhouse in 1861 & 71 censuses or at least tell me the relevant ref numbers & pages etc. to look for myself,
2, Will I have to buy his death certificate in order to confirm his job as Tailor, as well as possible (family) informant of death?

Thanks, Marcus

I have....!! Thanks for that.

I forgot to mention, on 1871 census, Susan describes herself as 'Widow'.

So, prior to 1871 he dies somewhere...... But Where?

Hi, I am trying to find the death of my 3xgreat grandfather William Tizard. I have him on 1841 & 1851 Censuses.

1841 Census, he is in local Borough Gaol in Melcombe Regis/Weymouth, Dorset, (By trade a Tailor) - aged 37 years. Wife, Susan aged 39 years & 8 children are living locally (Great George Street, Melcombe Regis).

1851 Census, William (55 Years, born Melcombe Regis) living together with family (5 Children), (1, Carter's Cottages, Park Street, Melcombe Regis). Wife Susan is 49 years.

1861 Onwards, William disappears into thin air!!! Where did he go and when did he die???? Is he even on the 1861 census?? I cannot find him.

1861 Susan living with son Thomas and his family, aged 59. Ibbertson's Court, Melcombe Regis.

1871 Susan again living with son Thomas and his family, aged 72 years, calls herself a 'Tailors's Wife'.

Sorry to be so long winded, but thought best to have info to hand in first place.......

So, any clues as to when & where he may have died?

Marcus
