I am trying to locate my half brother, John James Gills born 1945 Sunderland, who is the son of John Gills and Margaret Gills nee Carroll. He was adopted about 1949, possibly in the North London Area but have no knowledge of his adopted name or how to go about tracing.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Roy.

Have you tried registering on The Adoption Contact Register?

https://www.gov.uk/adoption-records/the-adoption-contact-register

If John is looking for his birth family, he might register also.

You might try looking for family names on other members' trees, on the off-chance he is a member - a long shot, but worth trying. Use search box above.

You might also try contacting the relevant social services dept and see if your contact details can be added to his file.

Good luck!

Jan
