Not sure why you think he died in 1913 - his army record goes through to 1918?

His attestation shows he had previously served for 23 years in 2nd Batt Wiltshire

Added, originally attested in Oct 1884 age 14years 11 months, discharged 17/2/1908 rank of sergent.

I think Silas died 1931..looks like azz has just got last two digits round the wrong way

His original attestation gives his father as Simon, shows he had an older brother William (also in Wiltshire regiment), and other un-named older siblings.

Unlikely to find him on 1891/01 census - he was in India 1885-1895 and South Africa 1899-1903. However I can't see him on 1881 though.

Think you're right Dea, that's what I was coming up with as well as I couldn't find births for Silus or the younger brother Simeon under the name Hobbs.

On the christenings for William & Mary, 13/6/1870 their mother was recorded as Rose Hannah and no father was recorded. There is a death in 1875 for Rose Gane.
