HI
I'm looking for any information on the above woman born 1887. She died in 1955 in Glasgow and from her death certificate I know she had a son, Walter.
I would like to try and find any relatives, as I am interested in info, photos or medals belonging to her first husband Peter who died in WW1.
Any info on any of the people mentioned would be very helpful.
thanks

Hello there Simon - use "Search" facility - top right hand corner of this page to see if Agnes or Walter feature in any trees on this site

any idea where Agnes was born?

hi simon, you say PETER was her first husband, does that mean he was a brown or was that Agnes's maiden name { assuming the carrick was her second husband }

You probably need to use Scotlandspeole.

???? Marriage ???

1914 CARRICK PETER HEANY BROWN AGNES DENNISTOUN GLASGOW CITY/LANARK 644/04 0074

This is the only marriage on SP between a Carrick and an Agnes Brown, 1904-40.

If you buy credits on SP, you can view/save/print the image of the cert, and see details of her parents.

I assume one of these is Peter's death - again, credits will let you see the details:

1916 CARRICK PETER M 32 SERVICE RETURNS / 119/AF 0029

1917 CARRICK PETER M 21 SERVICE RETURNS / 116/AF 0311

SP shows several marriages of women named Agnes Carrick after 1916, so difficult to say which would be her second marriage.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 6 Dec 2014 11:34

SP shows no births of a Walter Carrick 1914 - 19 17.

There's one born in Glasgow, registered 1919, but that's presumably not him, assuming Peter died 1917 at the latest.

Was Walter was the son of the second husband?

ArgyllGran Report 6 Dec 2014 12:53

This is her death:

1955 CARRICK AGNES MORRISON BROWN F 68 KELVINGROVE GLASGOW CITY/LANARK 644/09 0545

I've used a few credits to see the image, for info - you have all this already, Simon , although you didn't tell us the son's surname, which would have been helpful.

Her parents were Walter Brown (a cartwright) and Ellen Brown nee Matheson.
She died as Carrick - widow of Peter Carrick, shipyard labourer.
No mention of a second husband.

But the son's name is Morrison.

So Peter must have been her second husband, unless Walter Morrison was illegitimate.

If you use credits to look at her marriage cert to Peter, it will tell you if she had been married previously.

There's this possible marriage, though not in Glasgow - buy credits and have a look at her details
1906 MORRISON GEORGE BROWN AGNES INVERESK AND MUSSELBURGH /MIDLOTHIAN 689/00 0002

ArgyllGran Report 6 Dec 2014 13:03

There were 84 Walter Morrisons born in Scotland 1906-1914, of whom one was born in Edinburgh in 1906, and four in Glasgow 1910-12.

The Edinburgh one seems the most likely, if the 1906 marriage is the right one.

Peter was her first husband; I've been unable to find a marriage cert for the second one who was a Mr Morrison I presume as her sons surname is Morrison.

I've tried searching family trees on this site for matches, but nothing doing.

many thanks to all of you for your assistance, kindness and use of your skills

If she married Mr Morrison after Peter's death, then surely she would have been named Morrison on her death cert?

Unless they hadn't actually married, or they had divorced and she had reverted to her previous married surname.

If she had remarried, her other husband would also have been named on her death cert.
I don't know if a divorced spouse would be named on a death cert or not - but I would have thought so.
