I'm trying to find my great great grandfather who was born in 1838 in Hawick, Roxburgh, Scotland who moved to Valance Lodge, Forest and Frith, Teesdale in Durham where he met and married Frances Garget in 1859 when he was 21 years of age and she was 19. They had 4 children, John born1867, Hannah born1873, Peter Emmerson born 1877 and Frances born 1881. I have managed to find out this information when he came to live in Teesdale but I haven't been able to trace any information about his parents and family members in Scotland.

	Note that the John Elliot who is with parents Alexander and Mary on the 1851 census, is also with his parents on the 1861 census. There is also the John Elliot who is with wife Frances on the 1861 census........so possibly not the same John Elliot?

	They are 'alive and kicking' on 1911 census and are stated to have had 10 children - 8 of whom are still alive at that time so a lot more than the original 4 you quoted. Dea x

I have sent for his marriage certificate and hopefully this will give me his father's name. I haven't been researching my family history for very long and I have found it pretty straightforward until I tried to find John Elliot due to him being born in Scotland. Once again many thanks for your help.
