Just a thought....................

The 1881 doesn't actually say that Catherine is her mother - we are just assuming that !

They are just down as 'lodgers' so Catherine could be an 'aunt' or any other relative?

Shame we can't find Baptism for Mary E one!, looks like Birth Cert. needed.

So do you think that she's the one who married Wm. Senior in 1875? But then Shirley says that on the 81 census they're living with her widowed mother Catherine.

Edit: Just checked the original of that census and it doesn't really say that Mary is the daughter of Catherine, it says that the Seniors are lodgers.

One thing I have learned since I have been doing family trees is that a lot of people never actually knew their exact date of birth they just gave 'thereabouts'. ie. Mary has 3 different dates 1881 census -b.1855, 1891 c. b. 1860, 1901 and 1911 c. b. 1859

Perhaps buying both of these certificates would determine who's who.

Hi Folks
Still sifting through all the info. you are kindly giving me. Just realised I forgot to mention that one of the witnesses for William/Mary's wedding was a Jane Foxley.

I wonder if the Mary with grandparents in 1861 is the daughter of Thomas Foxley and Sarah Williams (Andrew posted their marriage).

George and Mary Williams did have a daughter Sarah.

Ah well, we know how reliable Ancestry trees are....don't we?

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 6 Feb 2015 16:55

Yes, of course you're right, Jacqueline. She was great grandaughter of George. I even went back to the original to see if it had been mistranscribed but it just says grandaughter.

Amazing how may trees on Ancestry have her as Mary Elizabeth born 1860.

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 6 Feb 2015 16:46

As I said earlier, I think that George is a GREAT grandfather.................look at his age

Although it could easily be the wrong Mary, as she is a little older, and the birthplace is not the same as in later years

I do, however, feel fairly confident about the other censuses

The one SURE thing is that she was definitely NOT the Mary Elizabeth born c1860

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 6 Feb 2015 16:43

Told you I was getting confused, Jacqueline. So is that the wrong 1861 census where Mary Foxley is with the Williams grandparents?

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 6 Feb 2015 16:39

Andrew also posted that one, Margee, but I can't think that it's relevant, to be honest
