Does anyone know how I can get information i.e Birth Certificate for my Gt. Uncle who was born at sea aboard HM Rosario on the 07.02.1912 while sailing back to England? Found his details in the GRO Consular birth indices 1849-1965 but when I applied had no luck.
Have been trying for an age without success,
Pam Jeynes.

did they say why not that certificate?

did you perhaps gave too much information .............. you should use ONLY the information shown in the GRO index.

If you add anything else, it will not match with their records and they will say they do not have it.

the only other thing I could suggest would be that you check freebmd to see if the was registered after they got back to the UK ..................

presumably you know his mother's maiden name and so can filter out others

in case you don't know, go to

www.freebmd.org.uk

click on Search

click on Births

enter surname

enter Thomas G* <<<<<<<<< the * is a wild card, and freebmd will thus show both entries registered with G only (most of them), but also Gilbert in the event that the entry you need is an anomaly.

scroll down to date boxes, enter year

click Find

Rosario isn't the name of the vessel but where he was born

Rosario
City in Argentina
Rosario is the largest city in the province of Santa Fe, in central Argentina. It is located 300 km northwest of Buenos Aires, on the western shore of the Paraná River. Wikipedia
So somehow an amendment or maybe the original entry was missed off from the records earlier

I would talk to the GRO about it if you can

This is the amended record from 1956:-

First name(s) THOMAS G
Last name TAYLOR
Birth year 1955-60
Place ROSARIO
Country ARGENTINA
Volume 50
Page 67
Record source GRO Consular Birth Indices (1849 to 1965)

You should be able to order the certificate from the GRO using the volume and page number given here. Make sure you stipulate "Overseas Births" on the form. Don't give 1912 as his birth year. Put 1956-60 instead.

I couldn't get that one to come up Well done Kathleen

Ahh found it now. Cos I had left the -1912 birth year when I first searched

Being on an I pad can be a bit restrictive in screen size !!

I can't remember how I got to the record now. I don't find it easy using Findmypast for anything other than English bmd's and census. Sometimes things don't come up in one search but do in another!!
