Janet Report 17 Feb 2015 16:01

If I have posted about this before I apologise, 'Ive looked back over old posts but can't find anything
I have a relative on my tree Alice Margaret Wakenshaw b 1858/9 in Chatton Northumberland

On her baptism record which I found on Familysearch in the Durham Bishops transcripts she is recorded as being the illegitimate child of Margaret Wakenshaw (my gt gt grandmother and Cassley/Carsley MOAK of Morris, Otsego ( a husbandman) nwhich appears to be NY state in USA. Name not verified could also be Cassler see below

I am trying to find out a bit more about him and what he was doing in Chatton, when did he come, how did he get here, when did he go back

also found this

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=81662932

Margaret went on to marry later and have another family from whcih I am decsended but this story intrigues me.

any help in padding out this information would be great

thanks

Jan

Passenger records on FMP cover 1890-1960, and I suspect that Ancestry is the same

The man was obviously given his mother's maiden name as a first name................far from unusual

Thanks Alviegal

So a few years after he was here in Northumberland passing on his genes he went back to the US to be drafted for the Civil War !

This is an interesting story

I had no luck in the passenger records for any Moak but I also checked to see if Alice's mother went to the USA,again no luck.

Janet

Janet Report 20 Feb 2015 16:57

Thank you for looking for me Thelma

Alice's mother Margaret married my gt gt grandfather Joseph Campbell in 1863 in Newcastle and went on to start our branch of the family in that area of the country.

Just an interesting story I am trying to pad out with facts
