I think you need the marriage certificate for this one.

This is just a thought. Could his name have been Edmund Maurice? This record would then fit.

I know this is very vague and there is no suggestion of any middle name so is most probably wrong but I can't find Maurice anywhere.

The marriage certificate looks to be your best bet.

EDIT No scrub this as there is a Merchant Seamen Transcription with this lad on dated 1918-1921 so can't be your Maurice unless he joined the Navy. There is a photo of him with it.

Hi Guys, still pondering over Maurice Edmund Dearden born 1895. I am now going to go along with some of your suggestions that Maurice was probably known as Edmund. I have his death record which says he is Maurice Edmund Dearden, and his daughter Marjorie Deardens marriage also has him as Maurice Edmund Dearden. So Edmund (not Edward) was definatley his middle name which I believe he was known as since there is NO listing of Maurice on the 1901 and 1911 census. I noticed his father was John Edmund Dearden (and the 1911 census has transcribed his intials as GE Dearden) which when you look at the actual document it clearly says J E Dearden. It also says he and his wife Emily were married 29 years making their marriage date around 1882. They had 18 children (god lord) and 6 have died. I traced a marriage for John Edmund Dearden born 1862 Hay Brecknockshire married Emily Rees?? I cant see any othe r marriages for John and Emily so I think this could be them.. I also noticed on the 1901 and 1911 census they are living at 12 St Julian St. according to the 1881 John was living with his family at No 6 St Julian St. Johns mother Elizabeth and 2 sistesr Louisa and Ada are still living at 6 St Julian St in 1891 while John is with Emily at No 12.. All too much of a coincidence NOT to be the same family... :-D

Made contact with registrars at Newport to enquire about a marriage between Maurice Edmund Dearden and Emily Cook to see if they could at least confirm Maurice's father as John Edmund Dearden a bricklayer. But they haven't replied one way or another. I'm wondering if I have the correct email address but don't see any other.. Normally they send an automated reply???
