Find Ancestors

I have been looking for the parents of Gilbert Tully 1778-1781 of Paignton, Devon. He married Jenny (Jane) Lewis of Berry Pomeroy, Devon in 1803. Possibility for his parents were Gilbert Tully 1760 and Rebecca Wallis. Married 1773, this would have made him 13/14 though. I have read that in the 1700's males could get married at 14. Is this correct? I am not getting any results in GR though I went on familysearch.org, but no other possible parents so far.

Thank you for that, I will check those then try and eliminate. As I said the marriage to Rebecca he would have been 14, but then if they were allowed to, could may well be. I would join other sites but it gets too expensive for me, but I have lots of non results with GR.

I spotted a Gilbert & Catherine Tully on the 1841 census...........hmmm, maybe two separate families, or not!

In the event that your Gilbert's parents were Gibert and Rebecca, I think it's far more likely that Gilbert senior was this one:

Edit - well the one you have found has children named William and Mary which could be significant., but there are two Gilberts born within a few years of each other.

I think Gilbert and Catherine are farmers, so I don't think that would be my stock, they are more agricultural labourers. My Gilbert 1785 was a carpenter, his son an agricultural labourer. William and Mary's Gilbert has the same date as mine so presuming they must be the parents. I have found their children on the Mormon site so will start checking dates to see if they seem to fit. GR is crazy, now I find that lots of marriages are blank, but on other sites it's all there. very frustrating when I have paid for the year :-D Thanks for your help ladies. <3
