Can you research Scottish Ancestors? If so, I cannot trace any of George Heggie's ancestors. He was born 1796 in Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland.
Any information, either from yourself, or what records and where I should research would be appreciated

If he died after 1855 then you can get his parents' names from Scotlands People which is a pay per view site.

You can also use the familysearch website for christening records but there are 2 George Heggie's born Kirkcaldy and both are within this man's time frame.

Seems to be on census until 1871 in Glasgow with wife Jane

So a death cert would be useful as already suggested by Claire
