UzziAndHerDogs Report 26 May 2015 14:10

Phoebe Garfit married Richard Turner 18th June 1792 in Staveley. Derbyshire
She wasn´t baptised in Stavely that I can find

http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~spire/staveley/gbaptisms.htm

her death was 24th May 1835 in Ridgeway age 61 making her YOB 1774. taken from Eckington registers of Ridgeway

Phebe Turner Ridgeway 61 24/5/1835

The only Garfit Phoebe I can find is :-

in Yesterdays Journey settlement certs
http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~spire/Yesterday/

74 George GARFIT (GARTHWAITE on reverse) Easther (Esther) wife, Elizabeth, Mary, Phoebe. Eckington 1772

If this is her then YOB has to be bef 1772 which I can except but I still can´t find her in Eckington.

Any ideas ??

Amy is the interesting one as she isn´t on the settlement certificate.

UzziAndHerDogs

UzziAndHerDogs Report 26 May 2015 15:25

Yes I found that amusing also. I have a feeling that when I locate Richard I will find the 2 families related. That is if I can "prove" Phoebe is the child of George and Esther.
Also interesting Esther had a sister called Phoebe.

Oh and Mary is one of theirs !

I will come back to this if anybody adds to it, but I must take the pooches out and get them sorted.

Thanks for the interest so far :-D

i was just thinking about the christening of the 2 eshers one in 1773 and one in 1774
when i was christened in a catholic chuch the priest would not use my name yvonne he called me joanna we did not think anymore about it till i was getting married it was in a different place he asked where i was baptised i told him then i was told he could not find me in that church then i rememberd i was joanna and not yvonne he went back to find records and found it i could not belive that they would not use my name,
also when my daughter was baptised her name is yvette and the priest put her down as edith and that was on her baptisim record im only telling you this because phoebe's name could be different from her birth name if the priest did'nt like it

UzziAndHerDogs Report 26 May 2015 21:44

Yvonne, Thank you for that. I do wonder if Phoebe was Amy. The fact that she was mentioned in 1772 makes me think she can´t be Esther The 1st was buried 24th Oct 1774 and the 2nd baptised 26th Dec 1774.
Both George and wife Esther are buried in Staveley, But I can´t find any mention of Amy after her baptism.
So although they weren´t catholic it´s something to think about. :-S
