There are just too many Allen's to make assumptions... I will have to be very brave and search the under stairs cupboard and find that Birth cert!!! Could take some time, thanks for your help anyway.

The 1911 census should list Mary as Mother in Law! could this be a simple mistake?
But why can't I find any trace of them anywhere before 1911? Only found a Allan family that sort of fits in 1901 ( if Elizabeth could have been called Florie) R13 252.

Yes I should have the parents names from her birth cert, I know I purchased a copy if the cert many years ago but I can't find it and it seems I didn't add the names to my family tree!! It's only recently that I have been looking back at my close ancestors that I realised I have so much info missing. I have been too busy searching further afield.

This seems to be them in 1911. Mary Ann Allen is listed as mother but should say mother-in-law as related to head.

Her birth was registered under her father's surname Elliott in 1909, then amended in 1913 to add her mother's surname.

Births Dec 1913
Elliott Elizabeth A. Allen Whitechapel 1c 432 Gillcole
Elliott Elizabeth A Allen Whitechapel 1c 432 Tony_Williams

The above transcriptions represent what is in the GRO index but they are referred to by the following entry

Births 1909 Jun: ELLIOTT,Elizabeth A,Whitechapel,1c,see D/13

which implies that this is a late entry, that is an entry that has been registered in a quarter later than the event.

You say they married in June 1909 but first child was born April 1909. So wouldn't Elizabeth's surname be Allen?

My Gt Grand mother Elizabeth Alice Allen was born in Whitechapel 1892 and Died in 1964 (Elizabeth Alice Elliott) she married John William Elliott in June 1909..their first child ( my grandmother) Elizabeth Alice Elliott was born in April 1909. Looking for Elizabeth born 1892 parents?? I know her mother was Mary Ann Allen born abt 1868 in Deptford as she was living with her daughter and family in 1911. The census transcript says Mary is a widower and mentions the Whitechapel Infirmary. I can't find them in any earlier census or BMD's Who was Mr Allen, Mary's husband? and did they have any other children apart from my Gt Grandmother Elizabeth?
Any help most welcome.
