Find Ancestors

I wonder if anyone can help me with this problem

They were my ancestors who lived in Glasgow. They married on the 5th October 1828 in Barony Glasgow.

I know about their children but my problem is this. I would like to find out about their parents if possible I think Margaret had a brother called Robert

I would greatly appreciate any help with this as I have spent a long time looking with no success

What were their children's names?

There are at least three George Hendersons married to a Margaret in the 1841 census. It's a common name.

First of all thank you so much for your help. unfortunately i don't have any information to point to the right one

I have their wedding certificate but in those days they only gave the 2 names and place

The children were Mary 1831 (MY Ancestor) don't have a birth record for her
Agnes 1834, David 1838 and Robert hunter 1845 (I have a birth record for him
which state Robert hunter and john McNaught were i think witnesses, They giot married in 1828. I know it is like looking for a needle in a haystack

Gary if you are still here I managed to get the birth certificate for Agnes and 2 witnesses were William and John Henderson the 1799 looks good so far as he had brothers john and William however i am still looking

Have you found the family on any census and then followed George and Margaret through all the census, they might have had a parent living with them at some point.

Please post a census you have. Anything from 1851 onwards will give places of birth and ages to help identify George and Margaret.

Is this the family - it's the nearest I can get to the names you mention. Mary/May is possible and ages can always be out. It's only a transcription, you would need Scotlands People website to look at originals - pay to view.

Ages on the 1841 census were rounded down for anyone over 15 so George and Mary could be aged 35-39, so born 1802-1806 - or even a year or two either side!

I have gone through the 1941 1951 and 1961 cencus and check you the information you have given me and I have the birth certificates for David and Robert
witnesses on Davids are john and William Henderson and on Roberts Robert Hunter .

George and Margaret got married in 1828 have the certificate.

The only one i have found so far that fits is George born 1799,two of his brother were
John and William father was Hugh and mother Christian Nisbet

If George's father was Hugh, you would really expect him to have a son called Hugh according to the customs of the time.

When you say that you have certificates, do you mean the Church records (of baptism/mariage)?

I'm with Bev on this one. It was custom to name children after parents

The 1841 gives two of his children as William and Agnes, a match with the names of his parents on the baptism I posted

These are the William Henderson/Agnes Rankin baptisms showing - 1780-1830 - all in Barony, Lanarkshire, none elsewhere according to the online records.

Perhaps the witnesses to the baptism c 1834 of Agnes and David c 1838 were Grandfather William and uncle John - George's Father and brother?
