The above lady lived in Keats Grove Hampstead London NW3 and employed my grandmother as a cook. Round about 1924 she paid my grandmother for my then 12 years old mother to pose for a portrait. The portrait hung in the Royal Academy summer exhibition but was not sold. It was then given as a gift to my grandmother and I still have it. I would dearly like to find out more about this lady and whether or not she had Scottish origins. I don't even now if she was a maiden lady or if Burns was her married name. Any advice please on how to start.
Thanks for any advice.

BURNS, Margaret Alice Delisle

1888 - 1974

As Margaret Alice Hannay, she was born in London on 9 July 1888, daughter of Arnold Alexander Hannay and his wife Alice Mary née Howard, who married at Hastings, Sussex in 1883. Margaret was the sister of Alexander Howard Hannay (1889–1955), art critic of the 'London Mercury', who published 'Roger Fry and Other Essays' in 1937. She was a student at the Slade School before the First World War, where she won the prize for
figure drawing in 1910 since when she has worked in France, the United States and Italy, taking as her chief subjects the old buildings of these countries. She married in 1912 the eminent national and international civil servant and academic Cecil Delisle Burns (1879–1942). A landscape and figure painter she has painted under the name of Mrs. Hannay and Margaret Delisle Burns and she has exhibited at the Goupil Gallery, the International and the New English Art Club. Her earlier architectural drawings were done in Dieppe when she first adopted the method of drawing in Indian ink with body-colour on brown. The obituary notice for her husband in 'The Times' of 23 anuary 1942 said that she was ‘a gifted painter and etcher’ they had two sons. She lived in Hampstead and in 1927 they built, at a cost of £1,000, Walberswick House at Walberswick, Suffolk which was destroyed by enemy action in World War Two and her riverside studio was washed away in the 1953 East Coast Floods. She died in the North Surrey district in 1974.

There is lots of info about her and husband Cecil if you google.
