must have birth date wrong the one born in 1923 was born oct-dec or perhaps he lied about is age being young

This is the birth registration for the only John V Rogers that shows on Freebmd between 1921-1924

W Bromwich is the Registration District that includes Wednesbury

Looking at a Public Family Tree, that 1923 registration could be late registration :-)

Have you got the marriage certificate???

That should tell you his occupation at the time .............

married Louis Fowler, St Barts Wednesbury

Don't have certificate, but will check it out

He was awarded the Africa Star medal, which was also given to merchant navy.
He did take part in the Russian convoys.
There was mention of HMS Raleigh in the family which is a Royal navy training base
