Alfred Cooper born 1846 Wolstanton, Stafford died 1902 his wife Jane (nee Prophett) born 1843 Burslem, Stafford, died 1909? Their children: Harry COOPER born 1871 Burslem - still at home 1901 census, employed as railway porter in 1891 census. William COOPER - born 1873 Burslem - still at home 1901 census, employed as pottery presser in 1891 census. Sarah A COOPER born 1874 Burslem - not listed as at home on 1901 census, employed as potteries painter in 1891 census - perhaps she married?? Charles F COOPER born 1879 Derby - shown as scholar in 1891 census Samuel Alfred COOPER (my great granddad) born 1881 Trentham, Stafford - shown as scholar in 1891 census Percy A COOPER born around 1883 * * Samuel Alfred COOPER made his way to Australia, probably alone - 1910 he married an Australian lady Stella Ethel Elma HOLMES - she was from Morwell, Victoria. They had five children together: Stella May - born 1908, died 1988 - married Ronald DADD Norman Percival - born 1910 - shot down over Germany Jan 1944, died then. Alfred (my granddad) - born 1913, died 1998 Marjorie Francis - born 1914, died 1967 (Married Donald Browning) Ronald Travis - born around 1917 The family mystery: It is said that Samuel Alfred COOPER was one of several men drowned on Scarborough Beach on Dec 31 1916. A young 16yo woman Kathleen Gornall was in trouble. The rope was too short, so several local men formed a human chain - unfortunately, the chain broke and all perished that day. Samuel was not mentioned in the newspaper articles for the tragedy - there is nothing else. His wife Stella was pregnant with son Ronald at the time of his disappearance. Stella lived until 1959 Samuels' son Alfred is my grandfather. Alfreds son Mervyn Alfred COOPER is my father. I was born 1965 in Perth, Western Australia. 	According to the Baptism Register for St Peter ad Vincula Church, Stoke on Trent for Samuel Alfred Cooper he was born 29 Nov 1880 Details on Register Name Samuel Alfred Cooper Received into Church 9 Oct 1889 Born 29 Nov 1880 Parents Alfred & Jane Father's Occupation Signalman Address 47 Shelton Old Road (this is the same address given on 1891 Census)
