Do you know for sure that your Frederick's middle name was Herbert please?

There is a Frederick Harry Potter born in Colchester in 1902 and I think that he maybe married Gloria. I have found this marriage which maybe Frederick Herbert's as it's in the same registration district as Frederick Herbert's birth.

If the Hammond / Potter marriage is your Frederick, I wonder if they divorced as Frederick says he's single in 1939 ( not divorced or widowed).

Here's the death of Ellen Maud Potter nee Hammond

Ellen Maud Potter
Birth Date: 2 Oct 1908
Date of Registration: Jun 1992
Age at Death: 83
Registration district: Colchester
Inferred County: Essex
Volume: 9

The Frederick Ellen married was born 1908 and they are together on the 1939 register and he was born 1908 so not your Frederick so you can discount that as a first marriage for your man.

Difficult to identify Henry and Laura's families. Suggest either buying wedding cert for fathers names or the birth certs then you will have both parents and mmn.

I know you didn't want to buy the certs but needs must.
