There's always the possibility that his birth wasn't registered. It wasn't compulsary until 1873.

Annie Ferguson may have also been known as Hannah Moriah Wake born 1833 Hull, Yorkshire to Anthony and Hannah Moriah Wake. Hannah also went under the name of Annie Marie on some of her chiildrens birth certificate to John Ferguson. Hannah also married a Richard Huckle in Melbourne in 1854.

Dea Report 10 Apr 2016 10:31

We do have one clue - he had a sister also - mentioned below:

Waihi Daily Telegraph, Volume VII, Issue 1960, 8 June 1907, Page 2

In Memorium

John Loft, the beloved husband of
Catherine Loft and brother of Mrs. Albert
Thompson, who was accidently killed,
Waihi mine, June 5th, 1905.

Gone from us leaving memories
death can never take away,
Memories that will linger with us
While on earth we stay

- Inserted by his loving wife and sister.

He apparently died in an horrific mining accident (also reported on Trove) leaving a wife and 3 young children (I assume you have their details?) - SO very sad!

Yes the sister was Eliza, but have never been able to find a birth certificate, to prove that Hannah was his mother, are you able to tell me what was posted in the Trove.
thanks Dea
