Hutton & Scrafton marriage Marske by the Sea, 1774

Hello, is anyone researching Isabel Hutton who married George Scrafton in Marske by the Sea, Yorkshire (could be called Marske in Cleveland) on 1 Sept 1774?

My real interest is in tracing George himself - as he could have married Elizabeth Simple in 1777 in Welbury, Yorkshire - hopefully he wasn't a bigamist, but I cannot find a death record for Isabel!

My George Scrafton who married Elizabeth Simple in 1777 is my brick wall - I cannot find where he came from, but he was born in 1741 or 1742 and the only chap I can find that fits that is this George in Marske..... who may well have married Isabel in 1774.

Hope that isn't too confusing.... and that someone can help. Thanks!

This is George so not the same person you're looking for unless he lied about his age.

Maddie that death is for someone buried 13 March 1741. The baptism posted is Sept 1741. So unless there is an error in the years, they are different people.

Ah, I see you've noticed that <3

Thanks all -

I think my George is

Baptism place Marske
Father's first name(s) John

Although I still don't know if he married Isabel Hutton in 1774... I DO know he married Elizabeth Simple in 1777 in Welbury. His age at death tells me that he was born in 1741 or 1742 and the only chap I can find is this one in Marske. Then I was surprised to see a George marrying someone in 1774 in Marske - maybe another one but I don't know how to find that out.

Could the George Scrafton who was born 1741 have died the next year?

Although the burial on the 13th March looks to be in 1741 - if you go through the other burials before that one you will see that they go up to December 19th 1741 and then without adding the heading of 1742 they carry on with burials in January, February and then George Scrafton's in March. I'm pretty sure this would have been 1742 as the burials were added in order of date, and because it says George, son of John Scrafton one would assume that the burial was that of a child.

On the National Burial Index it actually gives the same burial but gives the year as 1742:-

Thanks Kath - I have another thread on this board and found out the same.. apparently yes it could well be that George. So.... the only George Scrafton with the 'right' birth year that I can find, looks like he died as an infant!

I think the best option for me now is to try and find out more about the witnesses to his wedding in 1777 in the hope they can lead me to the right George Scrafton! They were Ann Stainsby and Michael Meek.

Thanks again.
