Ooh, this is not easy. Can't see anything confirmed for Louisa (yet). This is possible death for Sarah in 1916 (she doesn't appear on the military record in 1918 and an Elizabeth Brittle is Guardian of their child Annie:

Death:
First name(s) SARAH
Last name WILLIAMS
Gender Female
Birth year 1868
Age 48
Death quarter 2
Death year 1916

I found a birth cert for Louisa Elizabeth Cole March 1878 Mother name Louisa Colley and father Robert Cole but I am unsure if this is the right one as the birth is Greenwich -Deptford
In the 1881 census she appears with her step- brother James Bex for the first time In Leyton as registered as born in Leyton ,She is still registered as Louise Cole.

She then appears with James and his son James in Portsea Island Hampshire in 1891 and her birthplace is Leyton Essex

The 1901 census has her birthplace as unhelpfully 'essex'

Oh please, this has been bugging me for years. Apparently my granddad said he remembered having her pointed out to him in the street as his 'step mum' - if you could find anything I know my family would be grateful;.
Info I have on her is as follows
Born Louisa Cole, in 1878 He rname morphed into Cole bex on her marriage cert. This appears to be because something happened and she was then passed to her aunt Mary Ann Cole (widowed) who had married a James Issac Bex . This would explain why Louisa is also known as Louisa Cole-Bex.
In the 1881 census she appears with her step- brother James Bex for the first time. She is still registered as Louise Cole she then disappears from records in the 1891 census– James goes on to marry my great granddads sister Louisa so the families were joined by more than one marriage in more than one generation
:-(

I wonder what happened to Louisa? If I get time I might take a look later- I hate loose ends :)

Kevin

Kevin Report 2 Aug 2016 17:13

thanks all.
you star Austin, I think you cracked it.
In 1901 Henry lived at 128 Livingstone road so Sarah was a neighbour who lived at 124
so it appears that Henry at some point when Louisa left or died moved in with Sarah and her children and they assumed his name without marrying?

not a child Sarah but a child of Sarah who is living as Henrys wife in 1911

i looked for a possible birth for Edith born Croydon and the one surname ward looked likely but 1901 census ruled that one out

seems you already now her surname anyway ie Williams :-)

There is no record of marriage for Sarah and Henry- it looks as though they were living as man and wife- one or both were probably still married.
