Can anyone help - I know that George H .Bidder b.1839 married Sarah A. Freeman in 1866 and spent a short time in U.S.A. as his eldest son Alfred G was born there in 1867. In 1870 George H. was a patient at the Devon and Exeter Hospital and he died in September 1870 aged 31.
I can find no record of their sailing and no immigration records. Ellis Island was not in existence in 1867 so my guess is that they probably arrived through Castle Garden/Clinton!
I cannot find the cause of George's death at such an early age but wonder if he contracted typhus or cholera during the passage as condition for passenger were extremely unsanitary.
Regards Patricia.
