If it is the correct family it doesn't look like Thomas H E Smith or his sister Agnes married.

Sorry Dea- was thinking the same- if Grandad had been alive I'm sure it would have been from them both. Jjust added the death of his Grandad (1903) to my previous post.

Dea

Dea Report 11 Sep 2016 11:22

I would agree Austin.

Also, the fact that it was 'presented to him' by his Grandma would also lead me to think that his Grandfather was probably deceased. (Ony supposition though but everything sent to my children would be signed from 'Granny & Grandad' -( If and when I am eventually left on my own this would then just be signed from me ) ??

That would suggest to me- as you've said, that his first names were Thomas Henry Edward

The family of Jemima Smith that you've posted above seems to be more than coincidence. Could she have got his age wrong!
--------------------------------------------------

Shoreditch Observer - Saturday 02 May 1903
The death announced at the age of 61 of Mr. Henry Smith of Mowlem Street, Victoria Park. Deceased, who had been ailing for a long time was well know in the district, he having till recently been connected with the firm Smith and Co. leather merchants, of Bethnal Green. The funeral took place at Woodgrange Cemetery on Monday last, the arrangements being carried out by Mr J Sigournay of Bethnal Green Road.

Well it is certainly written quite clearly:

This bible was presented to
Thomas Henry Edward (NOT Edwards) from his Grandma

Jemima Smith

On his 5th birthday
November 12th
1912.

Although I still believe the signature says SMITH - it could 'possibly' say SOUTH.

Hello Everyone.
If I have done this correct, the link to the details is http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/keepsafe/asset/edit/40607026

When the Church gave me the Biblle, a person said can you imagine what a 5 year old boy was feeling when given this large heavy Bible as a present on his birthday.

I have to go out now, I will check later.
Again, Thank you for all the help

Going right back to the original 1939 census which I posted and to the subsequent marriage found by Choccy :

London, England, Church of England Marriages and Banns, 1754-1921

Name:Jemima Sophia Annie Veazey

Estimated birth year:abt 1845

Age:36

Spouse: Henry Smith

Spouse Age:39

Record Type:Marriage

Event Date:26 Dec 1881

Parish:St Peter, Bethnal Green

Borough:Tower Hamlets

Father Name:George Veazey

Spouse Father:Henry Smith

I was having difficulty following theis couple through census' but then came across this as a possibility:

The address is exactly the same as on the marriage cert so it looks like they were living together before they married and Jemima Sophia Annie is using one of her middle name?

Hello Everyone. I have only just turned on PC and seen whats been said. I am sure I have given the correct details. I am new to this site so not sure if emails can be or would be given out. I can scan the page and send to anyone who sends a message to me with an email address. Perhaps there is a way of uploading to this site. I am new to this so without your kind help, I would have stood no chance in returning this book, which I must do for them.

Thanks Choccy and Andysmum,

So, there 'is' a link from my Thomas Henry Edwards to a Jemima then !!

I had looked at that death for a Jemima in 1915 but was unable to find the probate details.

I am still having a lot of trouble trying to take this any further though :-(

Not any help- but was just following up the Thomas Henry Edwards that died 1981:

Name: Thomas Henry Edwards
Birth Date: 19 Nov 1907
Date of Registration: Jun 1981
Age at Death: 73
Registration district: Enfield
Inferred County: Greater London
Volume: 12 Page: 0345
--------------------------------------------------

He appears on the 1939 register with his brother (1 year out)

Edwards Household (3 People) 232 Green Street , Enfield U.D., Middlesex, England
Thomas H Edwards 19 Nov 1908 Male Barge Driver (Diesel Engine) Single
Sarah Edwards 16 Sep 1911 Female Factory Hand- Slot Slitter Married
Frank Edwards 27 Aug 1920 Male ??? Single
------------------------------------------------

His brother's birth:
Name Frank Edwards
Mother's Maiden Surname Pickavance
Date of Registration 1920 - Jul-Aug-Sep[1920]
Registration district Prescot
Inferred County Lancashire
Volume Number 8b Page number 1605

Which means the death in 1981 was for the Thomas Henry Edwards born 1907 Prescot. (with parents Alice Pickavance and Thomas Edwards). So as PricklyHolly said it's unlikey to be this one.
