5 SCOTT siblings Co. Fermanagh

Barbra Report 18 Nov 2016 21:52

Recently found letter from Col. Secretary in Aus regarding 5 SCOTT children (Margaret, Jane Ann, Eliza, Henry, Robert) indicates they were born in Cooneen Townland, Co. Fermanagh, Ireland. They emigrated with parents Robert & Janette/a SCOTT via 'Manlius' in 1842 to Port Phillip, Australia. Parents died of plague on board ship.
Have recently been in contact with the rector of Colebrook & Cooneen with Mullaghfad who indicated that he had 2 SCOTT families in his parish/s but no baptism listing for the children. He suggested trying nearby parishes, but I have no idea where/what these could be.
Could anyone assist please, or provide some alternate suggestions that I could try?
regards

Any dates of birth for the children?

Hi Catherine

Thanks for the interest.

Jane Ann and Margaret SCOTT are shown on the ships manifest as being twins (c.1828) although other documents show Margaret as the elder.
Robert SCOTT (c.1830)
Eliza SCOTT (c.1832)
Henry SCOTT (c.1834)
regards

Valerie- It appears there is a Scotts family from Durham also aboard (John and his (deceased) wife, and children, Anthony, Robert & Mary- they are not part of the same Scott family.

On the Manifest it says the family are from Co. Tyrone

A tree on Ancestry suggests this is the baptism of Jane:

Name: Jane Anne Scott
Gender: Female
Baptism Date: 19 Jul 1829
Baptism Place: Clones, Monaghan, Ireland
Father: Robert Scott
Mother: Jane
FHL Film Number: 897416

This site has a map of Cooneen and surrounding parishes:

The parish appears to be on the border of Monaghan & Tyrone

also this baptism- unsure if it's connected:

Gender: Female
Baptism Date: 17 Apr 1825
Baptism Place: Clones, Monaghan, Ireland
Father: Robert Scott
Mother: Jane Trumble
FHL Film Number: 897416

Thanks for the assistance everyone.

AustinQ- thanks for the baptism records, no way of telling if these are correct or not.

As Potty has indicated (thanks for the maps) Cooneen Townland in Fermanagh is right on the border between Monaghan, Tyrone and Fermanagh. Assume this 'shifted' several times.

Someone has suggested Fivemiletown could be a possibility- but you'd really have to know the area to know if this is even a possibility. I'm hoping someone with more local knowledge can provide info with where to try next.
