If the father isn't named on the birth certificate I'm not sure you'll ever know.

Mary is on the electoral register in 1920 still at 11 George Street:

West Yorkshire, England, Electoral Registers

Year: 1920-1921
County: West Yorkshire
Parliamentary Division: Normanton
Place of Abode: 11 George Street

Mary Parkes
Philip Cummings
William Watson
William Faulkner
-----------------------------------------

Philip Cummings and William Watson are listed at the address in 1919
----------------------------------------

Gladys in 1939:

Simmons Household 51 Harewood Lane , Hemsworth R.D., Yorkshire (West Riding), England

Frank Simmons 14 Sep 1876 Male Coal Hewer Below Widowed
Gladys Monks (Parks) 25 Sep 1918 Female Unpaid Domestic Duties Single

If Mary was unmarried when she had the baby then it's highly unlikely that a Mr Parkes was the babies father

With no father named on the birth cert then it's not possible to look for anyone I,m afraid

Ah, there's a tree on Ancestry that has the Rose that married Albert Hinks as the daughter of Mary/Polly Wakefield and Jobe Parkes.

On the marriage the address for Rose is the same as Gladys's was in 1939.

Ah- Job/ Jobe dies in 1917 (so can't be the father of Gladys).

Frank Simmons is also with Gladys in 1939

Ah ok I didn't pick up the age

Note though his dad was Joseph Parkes

Not unknown for a grandads name to be on a marriage cert as dad when the child was illegitimate . It's face saving

Have that scenario in my family tree for a cousin of my dad who married in the 1930's

Thank you all so very much, reading between the lines- me thinks that Jobe, Gladys father was illegitimate ?, was trying to place him in my tree, but can't find any connection, thank you all for info :-)
