I'm pretty sure that the 61 census on Ancestry lists Sarah Lawley as daughter-in-law, meaning stepdaughter of Edward Gibbons therefore daughter of Emma.

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 23 Mar 2017 14:50

Michelle the census info does say she is the wife's daughter and on one says daughter in law which the way a stepdaughter was described at that time

If you are still unsure then her birth was registered

Births Jun 1855
LAWLEY Sarah Dudley 6c 141

Gro record ????

LAWLEY, SARAH PARRY Order
GRO Reference: 1855 J Quarter in DUDLEY Volume 06C Page 141

Edit seems to be a diffrent Brierley Hill

This more likely
LAWLEY, SARAH JANE - Order
GRO Reference: 1854 M Quarter in STOURBRIDGE Volume 06C Page 223

But really I wouldn't spend money on a cert the census info is more than sufficient that sarah is Emma daughter

On the GRO list there is a birth registered in Stourbridge in the June quarter of 1854 for a Sarah Ann Lawley with no mother's maiden name. I believe this may indicate an illegitimate birth. Excuse my poor English geography but would Brierley Hill be in the Stourbridge registration district?

EDIT

Also a Sarah Jane Lawley in March quarter 1854 Stourbridge with no mmn.

rootgatherer

rootgatherer Report 23 Mar 2017 14:55

The birth in 1855 in Dudley gives mmn of Parry.

EDIT

Sorry Shirley, I see you were editing your post while I was typing the above.

Right, just googled it

Brierley Hill is a small town and electoral ward of the Dudley Metropolitan Borough, in the West Midlands of England, and is situated approximately 2.5 miles south of central Dudley and 2 miles north of Stourbridge.

So one of those two Stourbridge births could be your Sarah. If you knew if she had a middle name of Ann or Jane it would help.

If Sarah was born in 1854, she was very young when Peter was born.
