Thank you all for your comments. I had a distinct feeling there was not going to be an easy route to getting the info.

With regard to the age of Willi the dob is correct. He gave his age as 20 when he married Rosina 1948.

Deutsche Dienststelle (WASt)
Eichborndamm 179
13403 Berlin.

This is the central centre where all German Military WW2 soldiers records are kept.
Strict control is used in their release with confirmation of proof on your relationship and a researcher is the best way to go.ie translation of documents if a personal visit isnt possible.

Records are very informative regards background.

I never found the Anglo German soc any help

They wanted you to join up before they would even answer you .

Again my genes helper told me not to bother as they are more inclined to info once the families had arrived in the uk or gone to the USA

Family search didn't find my family either

As Shirley says, German records are not held centrally and you need to approach the individual areas, but there are quite a lot of German records on the familysearch site. I got back quite a long way with OH's ancestors as I knew the specific area they came from.

Have you tried the Anglo-German family history society to see if they can help?

My paternal grandfather was German .he came over to the uk with his parents and siblings in the 1880's

The census,s never showed where in Germany any of them were born and I drew a blank many years ago trying to locate any records

There was a Genes member ,now sadly deceased, who I met a London meets and coincidently lived in the same area I was brought up in who was fluent in german and had german ancestors ,he would go Germany quite often on family history research
He tried to help my Search but drew a blank
German bmds are held locally not centrally and many were lost in the bombings of WW2

Willi Ewald Storckmann was born 1927 in Germany and was a POW in Kent where he stayed after the end of the war.

His father was Wilhelm Storckmann, a factory worker. It is possible he was born, from this hit on another site, in Dusseldorf

Name: Wilhelm Storckmann
Gender: männlich (Male)
Residence Year: 1940
Address: Glockenstraße 9u
Residence Place: Düsseldorf, Deutschland (Germany)
Occupation: kfm. Angest (employee)
Title: Adreßbuch der Stadt Düsseldorf (Düsseldorfer Adressbuch)
Signatur: ZB 10072

I have looked at a number of German sites but frankly didn't really know what I was doing as I have no German, which is ironic as I am half German!!!

It would be a great start if I could find a record of Willi Ewald's birth
