My nan never knew her father. He married my great nan Annie because she was pregnant but soon after ran off with Norah. (If that makes any sense). He was born in Southampton but died in portsmouth.
Each of those children are correct-it's my belief my great nan finally granted him a divorce around the time of the birth of the last child.
I would love to find out more about the new family he had-and I would love to see a photo of him.

Not sure I understand Yvonne? Gemma believes that Barbara didn't grow up with her father (as happens to many children) and now Barbara and her mother Annie (first wife of Francis) are both deceased.

Barbara's death:

Name: Barbara Eileen V Bateman
Birth Date: 24 Jan 1932
Date of Registration: Dec 1992
Age at Death: 60
Registration district: Wandsworth
Inferred County: London
Volume: 15
Page: 1154

hi
this is bit confusing if barbara's father is francis cox and barbara was born to his first wife annie ainger which looks like the only child born to them how is it that barbara did not know him and gemma said his first wife died and so did his daughter

Yvonne, there a quite a few more Cox births in Portsmouth with mother's name Grainger. (8 listed between 1930 and 1950)

A tree on Ancestry (Probably Gemma's) has these as the children of Norah Cecile Grainger (1913-1986) and Francis Albert Cox (1904- 1985). There are other children that may be still living.

Frank M Cox
1932 – 1994

Patricia Cox
1935 – 1984

Maureen Cox
1937 – 2003

Norah Cox
1940 – 2003

Michael Cox
1949 – 2009

When and where did he die?

Who registered the death?

Have you done any research with regard to children of his second marriage?

What name is represented by the initial 'A'?

If your grandmother did not know him, how was he related to her.....if he was?

Are the Cox/Grainger births in Portsmouth from before the marriage date, or a
different couple?

Have you looked for births in free bmd, and looked to see if anyone is in any member's tree on here?

I am aware that Francis Cox (male) died some years ago, as did his first wife and daughter. I know he remarried and married a Norah Grainger and had children. I am trying to get in contact with any of his surviving children or possibly even grandchildren. I never met him, and I believe my nan didn't know him. My nan was Barbara Eileen Vivien Cox. My great nan was Annie Ainger. I was contacted some time ago by a grandchild of his but after giving my contact details didn't hear back. Would love to see even 1 photo of him so I can show my dad and aunty. Would love to speak to someone who would be my Nan's half sibling or my dads cousin!
