Can anyone help me, I have come across a name in my ancster search that
I can not find any meaning or variation to and that is Mungo, it appears twice in my tree, Mungo Borrowdale, c1538 ( father ) and c1550 his son, can anybody tell me is this a proper name or an abreviation,I have come accross the name in a couple of other trees as well.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It is a proper name and there seems to be a great many of them in Scotland.

Proper name. St. Mungo is the Patron Saint of Glasgow.
