Hayley If you were wondering if you needed a person's father's name to order a cert - no you don't. But I have sometimes used a father's name as a check when ordering - ie I want Jane Bloggs' marriage cert to Fred Labourer, but only if Jane's dad is Bert Bloggs. nell |

Hi Hayley I have a marriage cert - 2nd marriage for both of them, both in their 40's. The husband gives his fathers details, the wife doesn't. I was lucky as I needed the husband's details. The wife may not have known her father's name or as she was clearly old enough chosen not to give them. It's down to luck sometimes, I took the chance as this man was proving to be untraceable in other ways. Good Luck, Jenny |

Hayley The only marriage cert I have in my possession which does not have a father's name on it, is the one for my illegitimate great-grandmother, but thankfully the registrar instead of putting a line through the column actually wrote 'illegitimate daughter of Susan Barnes' so that I could at least trace my gt gt grandmother. How old someone is at the time of marriage only affects the age column. All other details must be given. I have a couple in my family who married in their late 60s and 70s and their fathers' names were included, although they were both indeed deceased. Does this answer your problem, or have you another question? nell |

I don't know about that age but my father had lived away from home and still put his father's name and deceased on the certificate even though he had been dead over 10 years. (Actually that was more confusing because it was his step father). i have quite a few marriage certificates with father deceased on them. Hope this helps. |

If someone was maried in 1942 and had lived away freom family for a few years, talking 20ish, would they still have to put fathers name on the birth certificate, bearing in mind she would have been about 63. I was going to order a marriage certificate but no point if it it doesn't tell me more than i already know x |
