Hello, my name is Lauren and this is my first time so I'm really nervous! Here goes: my Dad was born in 1959 in Ireland. He lived 21years as Reg Doyle DoB 02/06/59 BUT... at 21 he wanted to go abroad with his friends so asked for his birth certificate to apply for a passport. His father then explained that he was adopted! He then had to go to a solicitor to change my Dad's birth certificate details and get a new one, in order for him to get a passport. All my Dad can remember is that on the original certificate his name was Tony Scully and his DoB was actually 03/06/1959! and that he was actually born in Tipperary. Do I have any chance of tracing his natural Mother and family if the adoption wasn't legal? Unfortunately his adoptive parents both died together as a result of carbon monoxide poisoning from their gas boiler. They hadn't given him any other details before they passed away. Please help - where do I start?

Hallo Lauren Lots of 'ifs' here. I would check the original birth cert entry. I know that in England adopted children have 'adopted' written on the original cert. But if this adoption wasn't legal, and was just an arrangement, I imagine that there won't be any records. Maybe you could try finding the solicitor who helped get the passport - he might have further information. nell
