My great grandmother had my grandmother adopted on the pretext that her husband died, she remarried and couldn't afford to take both children to America. I am not sure whether this is true but can anyone give advice as to where I should be looking? I do not know the name of the person she remarried. Her name was Dora Ethel Mason (nee Altree) Her other daughter's name (who she took with her) was Sybil Mason, born in 1909. If they did emmigrate, we think it was about 1914-1924. Incidentally, her first husband - we cannot trace his death. We now know he was in the Merchant Services. Would his death, if whislt in service be listed elsewhere? Many Thanks |

You can check overseas deaths on 1837. If you put a request thread in for emmigration passenger list search then somebody might be able to help. Have you checked out Cyndis list? I am sure there are a few websites about emmigration listed there. Sorry but know nothing about adoption, but think no official docs were kept in early 1900's. |
