I've been using Family Tree Maker 2005 version for a while before realising that it created a reference number for each person in your tree. I didn't like the fact that the number was 5 or 6 digits long and I asked if there was a way to change it. Unfortunately there wasn't. Soooooo I spoke to a mate who made me a little file that runs through a GED file and changes all the reference numbers, starts from 1 and runs through the file till it's changed each number. So I now have a tree with ref. numbers from 1 to 365 instead of 20568 to 20921 or whatever it was before. --- If anyone is intrested I would be willing to let others use it. I would need to create a README file for it though as it's run from a msdos prompt unless I can get him to create a nice graphical user interface for it. :D Do if I get enough interest then I'll see what I can do for you all. |

I have just seen this, and I would be very interested in using the tool. |
